Forget-Me-Not's shareware Cryptographer runs on all current versions of Microsoft Windows (XP and Vista)..

Cryptographer is a Visual Basic Program.  It was produced by Forget-Me-Not Shareware Inc, which is no longer in business.  Forget-Me-Not Shareware Inc has allowed this site to give free distribution of Cryptographer program. This site also continues to run the cryptogram contest.  Shawn Williams and Michael Rubesch at Purdue University have converted the program to run on 32-bit/64-bit computers.

Download the file, right-click on the file, select Properties,  click on Unblock.  (This is a security feature of XP SP2.)  Click on the cryptogx.zip file.  Click on setup.exe.  Follow the instructions to install Cryptographer.   You can select where the program is installed.

Register the program by clicking on registration.html or  sending a message to david@cahlander.com that contains your name and email address.  You will receive back a 12 digit code to use to register the program.

If you have the Cryptographer program currently installed,  your current registration is used.

Association of .dqf files (16-bit version):

1. In Windows Explorer Click on Tools>Folder Options>File Types
2. Page down the list of file extensions. If DQF is on the list select it and delete it.
3. Click on New.
4. Type DQF into the window and click on Advanced.
5. In the Associated file type window page down to and select Application then click on OK.
6. Make sure DQF is selected and click on Change.
7. Select CRYPTOGR from the list or if it isn't there click on other and navigate to the Cryptogr folder and select Cryptogr.exe. Then OK it.
